If you are one of those who was raised in church, then you more than likely grew up hearing the phrase, "in order to get to heaven you must be born again." Is this statement correct?
Let's look and see what the scripture actually says. In John chapter 3:1-6, A man named Nicodemus went to visit Jesus at night. He told Jesus, "WE KNOW you are a teacher sent from God." Jesus told him, "Except a man be born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God." Jesus didn't say anything about going to heaven.
I've heard a Pastor or 2 in the past say , "Our ultimate goal is to get to heaven." Jesus never preached about getting to heaven. His message was the Kingdom of God is at hand, or near.
He told Nicodemus he must be born of water and the Spirit. Nicodemus, being a little confused by Jesus' words asked, "Can a man when he is old enter his mother's womb and be born again second time? Jesus said, "what is flesh is flesh and what is Spirit is Spirit.
Some say that being born of water means being baptized in water. That's not the case here.. Jesus was simply saying first a natural birth, then the Spiritual birth.
Jesus was teaching heaven in you, not you going to heaven. I have said for years, People are trying to get into heaven while heaven is trying to get into them. Stay Tuned for part two on Wednesday.
Until then, Grace, Mercy, Peace, to You.
